Going to a concert can be a fun experience that often includes people of all ages. However, sometimes it may not be the best thing for young kids to attend certain concerts, especially standing general admission shows.
If you have ever been to a standing general admission concert you know that at times it can get chaotic. With several people it is especially easy to get separated from those your group. For a young child it can be scary to lose a parent for just a few moments at a store but at a concert there is a good possibility that you won’t see someone you get separated from until the end. It’s not safe for a child to be at these concerts which is why there should be an age limit on some concerts.
Besides the possibility of being separated there are other dangers for younger kids. At general admission concerts everyone wants front row but it can difficult to get that spot. People are constantly pushing, sometimes as hard as they can, only focused on their prize of being right in front. There are times that people end up tripping and falling because of this someone as small as a child can get seriously injured.
Some bands are known for having circle pits, mosh pits, and wall of deaths during their concerts. Kids should at all costs avoid these concerts but some do decide to attend and they are immediately put into an unsafe environment. For those who do not know a circle pit is when people clear a big area to allow others to run around the perimeter while listening to the music. A mosh pit is when people dance and knock into people in specific areas in the crowd. A wall of death is when the crowd is split into two sections and when they are told to both sides run into each other. These three things can be fun but only if you know what you are dealing with and don’t get injured. It doesn’t really matter how old you are because despite how experienced you are you will always have a chance at getting hurt. Like stated before, a child is smaller than a teenager, young adult, and adult, someone that small has a greater chance of getting hurt. Plus, a child can be very curious and possibly get too close or involved in one of these three things.
On top of that there is also crowd surfing at these types of concerts. Crowd surfing is when people get on top of the crowd and are passed along to the front with the help of the people standing. Crowd surfers depend on the people below to not drop them and they mainly control where they go. If a child is standing in the crowd and especially in the front this could be a serious problem. People who crowd surf are usually teenagers and young adults and if they go above a child there is a good chance they will fall. Not only is that putting the crowd surfer in danger but also those who are nearby when they fall.
If a child is seriously injured, or anyone, it can also lead to the performers getting in serious trouble, like getting sued. Also, if a kid starts to get bored and complain it can annoy those nearby who are trying to enjoy the music and experience. Standing general admission concerts are not a place for children and there should be some type of age limit, for example only 16 years and older allowed.
